Open Day at Ellis Cottage 1st August

The spinning wheel at Ellis Cottage. Used for spinning thread or yarn from fibres, it was fundamental to the cotton textile industry prior to the Industrial Revolution, and increased the productivity of thread making by a factor of greater than 10. Traditionally this work was done by females, many of whom demonstrated great skill and speed

Drop in to see us on our next Open Day

Sunday 1st August

Ellis Cottage and our barn will be open to the public from

2pm to 4pm

 

Entry is by gold coin donation

 

We can take you through the cottage and answer any questions you have.

 

Our local history books are for sale for $10 each.
The Diamond Valley Story (original 1974 publication) is also for sale at $45.
